Fingerprinting

California law requires all public school employers to secure criminal background clearance for each new employee/assembly presenter. It is prohibited for different agencies to share confidential fingerprint results with each other. The information provided by the Department of Justice to each employer regarding your previous criminal history information is confidential. As a result, this information may not be shared between employers AND therefore, each new employer must obtain clearance.

Employment with Marin County Office of Education:

Please contact the MCOE Personnel Department for the Request for LiveScan form and instructions. Employees must have Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance on file prior to the first day of employment.

Certificated Employee Fingerprint Information:

The California Education Code §44340 & 44341 require that all individuals who seek to obtain California credentials, certificates, permits, and waivers issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) receive fingerprint clearance from the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) through the Commission. Individuals who have received fingerprint clearance through other California agencies, employers, other states or government agencies are not exempt from this process.

CCTC Credential/Permit Applicants

Applicants must be fingerprinted for the CCTC prior to admission in a college or university credentialing program and have a current Certificate of Compliance on file with the CCTC.

Certificate of Clearance Instructions

Applicants for an initial permit that does not involve a formal program, i.e., 30-Day Emergency Substitute Teacher Permit or the various Child Development Permits, must Livescan for the CCTC and include a copy of their Request for Livescan (form ORI: A0281) in the application packet.
