Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program
The 2016 Gold Ribbon School Award recipients have been announced by State Superintendent Tom Torlakson. Congratulations to: Bacich, Ross, Hamilton, Mary Silveria, Vallecito, Venetia Valley, Sun Valley and Glenwood schools. A regional awards ceremony is scheduled for May 5, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Marriot Santa Clara. 2017 Teacher of the Year Program
The California Department of Education (CDE) will again recognize five exemplary California teachers for 2017. We have many outstanding teachers in Marin County and need your help in identifying and recognizing them for this honor. Below you'll find additional resources. Please note that all applications are due to the Marin County Office of Education by 5:00pm on May 6th.
Mathematics Placement Act of 2015
The California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015 requires the governing boards or bodies of local education agencies that serve pupils entering grade nine and that have not already done so, to adopt "a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy" before the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. The mathematics placement policy must be adopted in a regularly scheduled public meeting.
Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning.
Principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public, may nominate teachers in grades K-6 for the 2016 Award Year. Please visit the Presidential Award for Excellence website to submit a nomination and for instructions and application. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2016.P

Teaching Through the Arts - MCF Initiative
On May 5, 2016, the MCF-MCOE Art Initiative Survey will be distributed to site Principals and Superintendents. It's our hope that we will have 100% participation to assist us with identifying the Art Education landscape of our county. The survey window will be May 5th to May 27th. The presentation provides an overview of this initiative between MCOE and MCF.
