Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE)
Assembly Bill 9 X2, approved by the Governor on May 4, 2016, prohibits the use of all tobacco products on all County Office of Education, charter school and school district property and requires that all districts prominently post signs at all entrances to school property that state “Tobacco Use is Prohibited.” MCOE has signs available - please contact Kristen Marcucci at kmarcucci@marinschools.org or 415-491-6685 to arrange for sign delivery.
SB 277 Immunization Requirements Related to Special Education Students
School and College Legal Services issued a Legal Update offering guidance on the immunization law related to special education students stating that students with individualized education programs are not exempt from the law but also have the right to receive services. The firm recommends that districts not require special education students to comply with the law. Two letters to parents were recommended. One to be sent at the beginning of the year explaining the law, and one monthly letter to remind parents about the law.
Conditional Entry Decision Tool for TK/K-12
The Conditional Entry Decision Tool for TK/K-12 was created by the San Francisco Public Health agency and may be useful for looking at records of students who are missing doses of vaccines. It can help determine if a student is up to date or a conditional admission, how many doses are needed, and when the next dose of vaccine is due.
Immunization for 7th Graders
Schools with low vaccination rates are at increased risk for outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. Some children are allowed by California law to skip immunizations if a parent submits a permanent beliefs exemption (PBE) or a medical exemption (PME) at enrollment. Note: Schools with fewer than 10 children in the 7th grade are not included on the list or map. The school data presented in the lookup is as of the close of reporting in the fall of the 2015-16 school year. Student status may change during the school year.
