Beyond Brilliance – September 13, 2017
This workshop will break up certain myths about learning that might actually be holding the student/ourselves back. This workshop offers tools and ideas to destroy the illusion that we cannot become smarter or use our brains in a more efficient way. It shows that we are all 'learning machines' when we approach learning systematically and when we work to continually expand our base of knowledge and challenge the world view. Quick and easy tools that will benefit students and adults of all ages.
John O'Sullivan – Changing the Game in Youth Sports – September 19, 2017
Larkspur's Hall Middle School will host speaker John O'Sullivan, author, speaker, and contributing writer for the Huffington Post, Soccer America, and NSCAA Soccer Journal. John will be discussing the ways we can help our athletes perform to their potential, while at the same time, giving children ownership and enjoyment of their sports experience. He will present the latest science and psychology on performance and athletic development and present ways to create a healthier environment for our players, coaches and families. Presentation is for elementary through high school students and all adults – with most emphasis for 3rd to 8th grade students and families.
History Social Science Framework – September 21, 2017
Sessions include Themes in US History, New Approaches to World History, Improving Student Literacy Teaching HSS in the Elementary Classroom, Q and A with the Framework Writers. Specifically for Educators from grades 4-12.
Anti-Bias in Early Childhood Education – September 22, 2017
This 4 part Leadership Series and 4 part Leaders and Teaching Staff Series will take place at MCOE and provide insight into the role of building anti-bias programs starting in early childhood education.
Race Matters – September 23, 2017
The Marin County Office of Education will facilitate the kick-off of the Race Matters Dialogue and Educational Series by hosting a half-day workshop on race. This workshop will provide participants with a context, analysis and framework on the various levels and forms of power; offer a safe space for participants to deeply examine the impact that racism has had in their daily lives; and to build cross-cultural alliances based on mutual understanding and respect of their differences while working towards a common purpose and goal of working towards racial justice.
Ambassadors of Hope & Opportunity Town Hall Forum – September 25, 2017
California Senator Mike McGuire will host Ambassadors of Hope & Opportunity's Town Hall forum on the evening of Monday, September 25, 2017. The agenda will address youth homelessness and how the Marin community can lead the way around this growing trend.
Math Fluency & Problem Solving - September 25, 2017
Math Coaching Consortium for classroom teachers, teacher leaders and special education teachers grades TK-5. The focus of this workshop is on embedding dluency throughout all math lessons and incorporating math practices into the development of problem solving skills.

Know Your Classmates – September 28, 2017
"Know Your Classmates", a curriculum and campaign designed to create and nurture healthy and open relationships between classmates, particularly focused on middle school students. "Know Your Classmates" is an initiative of Beyond Differences aimed at combatting hateful language, anxiety, and fear of differences among students. On September 28, 2017, we will be partnering with Beyond Differences to bring "Know Your Classmates" to the Marin County Office of Education. Annual School Attendance Review Board – October 9, 2017
Carl Corbin, of School and College Legal Services, will provide educators and interested community members a workshop on the regulations regarding School Attendance Review Boards and share updates on schools addressing chronic absenteeism.
Mindfulness – October 9, 2017
Three day Mindfulness series to teach educators how to:
- Nurture a more positive classroom culture
- Cultivate more focus and engagement
- Equip students with skills to manage stress
- Motivate even the most reluctant learner
Sexual Harassment Prevention – October 17, 2017
Carl Corbin, of School and College Legal Services, will provide this training at MCOE for Marin County supervisory employees. Supervisory employees must receive two hours of sexual harassment prevention training every other year and/or if they are new to a supervisory position.
Leaves of Absences Workshop - Understanding and Managing Employee Leaves – November 1, 2017
The workshop focuses on the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act, California Family Rights Act, pregnancy leave and its impact on other leaves of absence, sick leave, extended illness leave, industrial injury leave and reinstatement rights, and AB2393.
Anti-Defamation League – Series – 2017-18
Anti-Defamation League will facilitate a series of discussions across 2017-2018 designed to highlight various topics that allow participants to understand and inspect their own bias. Dates to be determined.
