    MARIN COUNTY TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM - 2018-19 School Year

    The Marin County Teacher Induction Program is a state approved countywide consortium providing beginning teachers with two years of job-embedded mentoring to support growth towards mastery in the California Standard for the Teaching Profession. This program supports new teachers to clear their CA Preliminary credential. Through an individualized, goal-focused approach, mentors guide teachers in strengthening best practices within and beyond the classroom. The program provides a smooth transition into the complex responsibilities of culturally responsive teaching, increasing the retention of teachers, and improving learning opportunities for each student.

    DR. KENNETH HARDY OCTOBER 2018 SPEAKER SERIES

    Back by popular demand, Marin County's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Division, in partnership with the Marin County Office of Education and St. Vincent's School for Boys, are pleased to announce the return of Dr. Kenneth Hardy in Marin County.

    Dr. Hardy, an internationally recognized clinician, author, and trainer on the subjects of cultural competency and trauma, will lead four (4) trainings this October:

    Last spring, Dr. Hardy led an all-day free training in Marin City, CA on the subject of race which received rave reviews from a diverse group of behavioral healthcare professionals, civic, organizational and community leaders, and county residents. Please forward this information to your staffs as appropriate; register early as registration is on a first-come basis until capacity is reached.

    CRISIS PREVENTION INTERVENTION - October 8 and 12, 2018

    Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) is a workshop being held on two dates in October focusing on strategies to use with individuals whose behavior, while not physically aggressive, is very challenging. The program will give participants the "how to" strategies for effectively managing these behaviors with confidence. Learn why people behave the way they do. Learn how to respond effectively to individuals who are verbally aggressive.

    WOMEN CHEMISTS COMMITTEE PRESENTS "NO BELLES" - October 12 and 13, 2018

    The California Section American Chemical Society, Women Chemists Committee, are presenting "No Belles" - a dramatic production about women scientists and the Nobel Prize. "No Belles" focuses on the lives of women scientists who won Nobel Prizes and some who did not. It will be shown in the San Francisco Bay Area to benefit and inspire young women STEM students, in particular, and be accessible to all students aspiring to become the scientists of tomorrow. Friday, October 12th "No Belles" will be presented at Dominican University, San Rafael. Saturday, October 13th, it will be presented at Mills College, Oakland.     BECOME A CERTIFIED GOOGLE EDUCATOR - October 16, 23, 30 and November 6, 2018

    Small training cohort size of 7-10 educators. Workshops led by an experienced Google Certified Educator. All trainings take place in Larkspur.

    RED RIBBON WEEK - October 23-31, 2018

    The National Red Ribbon Week theme for their 2018 campaign is: Life Is Your Journey, Travel Drug Free. The annual Red Ribbon Week campaign is a national, state, and local commitment to a healthy, drug-free society and is the largest, most visible prevention awareness campaign observed annually in the United States. Red Ribbon Week brings millions of people together to raise awareness around alcohol, tobacco, drug, and violence prevention, early intervention, and treatment services.

    SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD - November 6, 2018

    Participants will understand more about the efficient and legal conduct of managing a SARB meeting, and will review the Marin County Series Truant Protocol and Procedures. Designed for school site/district staff, law enforcement, probation, community mental health and youth advocates who have responsibilities as members of School Attendance Review Boards.

    UNITED AGAINST HATE WEEK - November 11-18, 2018

    When cities and their residents work together against hate, we can restore respect and civil discourse, embrace the strength of diversity, and build inclusive and equitable communities for all. In honor of United Against Hate Week, let's come together as a community and share in experiences that will elevate understanding.     2018-19 CIVIC LEARNING AWARDS

    The California Department of Education and the Judicial Branch of California recognize and value the crucial role that elementary, middle, and high schools play in preparing each generation for participation in our democracy and invite schools to apply for the California Civic Learning Award. Now in its seventh year, the award is designed to celebrate successful efforts to engage students in civic learning and to identify at each grade span effective models that can be replicated. Applications are due January 19, 2019. The application is available at the Civic Learning Awards website.

    EFFICIENCY & EFFECTIVENESS COLLABORATIVE (E2): 2018-19 MEETING SCHEDULE & TOPICS

    The purpose of E2 is to collaborate with one another and with other entities to efficiently and effectively maintain or enhance their educational offerings, administrative operations, and other school activities. By sharing information and services, school districts can leverage collective strengths, focus on economies of scale, and reduce redundant efforts.
