    Focus on strategies to use with individuals whose behavior, while not physically aggressive, is very challenging. The program will give you the "how to" strategies for effectively managing these behaviors with confidence.

    Participants will learn:

    • How to respond effectively to individuals who are verbally aggressive

    Developing Emergency Operations Plans (EOPs) K-12 101 Train-the Trainer (TfT) Training - March 11, 2019

    This FREE full-day training presents important Federal guidance on school emergency management planning. The intended audience is potential master trainers as well as EOP planning team members from participating schools and districts responsible for training site-based planning teams interested in creating, revising, or enhancing school EOPs; school staff who serve, or will serve on their school or school district’s EOP planning team; and other interested community stakeholders, including first responders, emergency medical services personnel, law enforcement, and others.  

    School Behavioral Threat Assessments: An Introduction Train-the-Educator Training - March 12, 2019

    This FREE full-day training presents strategies on how districts and schools can prevent and reduce targeted violence in schools through behavioral threat assessments. The intended audience is District and school administrators, teachers, counselors, school psychologists, support staff, and additional staff who play a role in threat assessments and/or school safety, security, emergency management and preparedness; community partners, such as law enforcement, including School Resource Officers, and local mental/behavioral health representatives; and representatives from community groups, including youth-serving organizations.  

    Raising Healthy Families Community Education Series - Raising Boys to be Heroes in an Age of Villains - March 12, 2019

    This program will offer an overview of the unique development of boys through childhood and adolescence with a specific focus on the development of emotional competence, the ability to recognize, understand, express, and manage one's own emotions, and to respond appropriately to the emotions of others. This workshop is being held March 12th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the San Rafael Community Center, 618 B Street, San Rafael.

    Presented by Carl Corbin of School and College Legal Services, and designed for school site/district staff, law enforcement, probation, community mental health and youth advocates who have responsibilities as members of School Attendance Review Boards.

    Adolescence is an emotionally challenging period for kids and parents alike.  Embodied resilience, that is, being aware of one's own and others internal/non-verbal body signals strengthens our ability to access internal resources.  This workshop is being held March 28th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the San Rafael Community Center, 618 B Street, San Rafael.

    2019 Distinguished School Awards

    Marin County had no middle schools or high schools who met the below outlined criteria for the 2019 Distinguished School Awards.  The above link provides a summary of the 2017-18 All Student scores in each measured area.  The eligibility criteria relies heavily on the California School Dashboard across 2016-17 and 2017-18.

     

    Eligibility Criteria - Category 1: Exceptional Student Performance for Two Consecutive School Years

    • The ALL student group is blue/green in ELA, Math, Suspension, Chronic Absenteeism (middle school), College and Career (high school), and graduation rate (high school), on the 2018 dashboard
    • 95% participation rate in 2016-17 and 2017-18 for both ELA and Math

     

    Eligibility Criteria - Category 2: Closing the Achievement Gap between Two School Years

    • Poverty rate at least 40% in 2016-17 and 2017-18
    • The ALL student group is blue/green for ELA and Math on the 2018 dashboard
    • The ALL student group is blue/green/yellow in Suspension, Chronic Absenteeism (middle school), College and Career (high school), and graduation rate (high school) on the 2018 dashboard
    • Highest % of growth from any color to blue/green in ELA or Math from 2017 dashboard to 2018 dashboard for targeted student groups (AA, HI, SED, SWD, and/or EL)
    • 95% participation rate in 2016-17 and 2017-18 for both ELA and Math
