ATLAS* Summer STEAM Institute - June 17th to 20th, 2019
Welcome to Summer STEAM 2019! This page provides many resources utilized throughout the Institute. Please feel free to use them, pass them on, and collaborate with them!
Brief Overview of the Institute:
Through the SSAE (Student Support & Academic Enrichment Grant) Grant funded by the California Department of Education, Marin County Office of Education joined several Marin community organizations, STEAM leaders, educators, and experts to facilitate a 4 day STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Institute. The overarching goal of the institute was the 62 Marin County TK - High School educators would create a multi-disciplinary framework that empowers students to become advocates for the environment by investigating authentic questions through agency, identity and ownership.
Utilizing culturally responsive teaching practices, day one and a half, educators acted as learners experiencing a STEAM Unit of Study based on a local environmental phenomena through the lens of the Environmental Principles & Concepts (EP&Cs).
Days two, three and four, educators worked with content experts in all subject disciplines to create a STEAM Unit of Study they could bring back to their classrooms. Throughout the entire Institute, our learning was documented on the Making Learning Visible (MLV) wall focusing on the process of the learning using photographs, quotes, inquiry, and drawings. See photos of our MLV that follows below.
