Gun Safety and Keeping Our Children and Families Safe

As you may know, Marin County has committed community partners tirelessly working on the very important issue of gun safety.  I am pleased to be forwarding you information on their work which . . . quite literally . . . can save lives in our school communities.

Each year we send a reminder to our schools about the importance of gun safety at home and to share resources and information about other gun safety related issues.  We ask that you make it a priority to share this information with your families and staff. Attached and below, please find the following resources, available in both Spanish and English:

By taking the Parent Safety Pledge, our families who have guns in their homes are committing to keeping them properly and safely secured and to make sure that the homes their children visit take the same precautions.  Through the BeSmart program,  PTA’s and other parents and community organizations can learn about gun safety and the steps we all can take to reduce gun tragedies locally, in our state, and across the nation.  We encourage all of our schools to take advantage of this very valuable resource. Please note that all of these resources and more are available on the Marin County Office of Education’s Safe School website on the Gun Safety Page.

Thanks for all you do to keep our children, families and staff safe in our schools and at home.
