Speaking at Board Meetings
At Regular MCBOE Meetings, during the “Public Comment” period listed on the agenda, members of the public may address the Board on any topic within the subject matter jurisdiction of the MCBOE that is not on the current meeting agenda. Public comment regarding a specific item of the meeting’s agenda will take place at the time the agenda item is being considered by the MCBOE and before there is any debate or action by the MCBOE.
At Special MCBOE Meetings, public comment will be limited to only those items on the special meeting agenda.
A person wishing to provide comment to the MCBOE shall first be recognized by the President. Speakers shall complete a Public Comment Speaker Card (available on table outside of the Board Room entrance) to assist the MCBOE President in recognizing speakers and ensuring the orderly progress of the meeting.
Public Comment Speaker Cards for all items must be given to the MCBOE Clerk prior to speaking. Members of the public may also indicate their intent to speak at the meeting by electronically submitting a speaker card to the MCBOE clerk prior to the meeting using this link.
To assist the Board in managing its agenda and allocating time to speakers in accordance with the MCBOE Bylaws and Policies, Public Comment Speaker Cards will not be accepted after the public comment time has closed for any agenda item.
Speakers are requested, but not required, to state their name prior to speaking to the MCBOE. Speakers will be allocated one (1) to three (3) minutes each, and the MCBOE limits comments to each agenda item to no more than twenty (20) minutes, unless otherwise extended or limited by the President. A speaker's allotted time cannot be deferred to another speaker.
