MARIN COUNTY JOINT LEGISLATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Joint Legislative Advisory Committee (JLAC) is a countywide committee of elected school board members and superintendents created to advocate on behalf of public education in Marin County. Through the cost-effective sharing of resources, school districts can monitor and provide input on legislative issues that impact schools. Representing all 17 school districts in Marin County, the JLAC:

Develops priorities and advocacy positions for legislative issues important to the over 30,000 public school students in Marin County.

Meets monthly with legislative aides to monitor pending legislation and the State Budget.

Contracts with the firm of Ball/Frost Group, LLC to represent Marin in Sacramento.

Coordinates an annual legislative seminar to bring school board members and superintendents to meet in Sacramento with State public officials and address issues of high priority to education in Marin County.
- To better understand the overall legislative process and to understand the current legislative issues and the proposed Governor’s budget.

To establish contact and develop relationships with our own legislators and their legislative aides in Sacramento and in their local districts, as well as other individuals and groups which affect education policy, legislation and budget, with a special emphasis on JLAC’s legislative priorities.

To develop a cohesive team of Superintendents and Board members who actively promote the interests of all children in California as well as the specific needs of students in Marin County.

To have a real impact on the legislative process and school funding influencing the development and approval of legislation and school funding which will meet needs specific to Marin County as well as all students in California.
JLAC Goals
