County Committee on School District Organization
The Marin County Committee on School District Organization (CCSDO) is the local initiator, coordinator, analyst, facilitator, and arbitrator for the reorganization of school districts. The CCSDO formulates plans, responds to petitions, conducts public hearings, develops and releases information, and analyzes proposals throughout the approval process of a reorganization. For petitions for transfers of territory, where state approval is not required, the CCSDO gives final approval or disapproval (EC 35709, 25710) subject only to appeal to the State Board of Education. Provisional Appointment
The CCSDO is currently engaged in the provisional appointment process to fill the
currently vacant At Large seat on the CCSDO.
The CCSDO was created by California State Legislature in 1949.
In Marin County:
- 11-person committee
- Represents the 5 Supervisorial Districts in Marin County
- 2 committee members per District and 1 at large
- Members serve a 4-year term
The Marin County Superintendent of Schools serves as the Secretary to the Committee.
The CCSDO studies and makes recommendations in the areas of:

The transfer of territory between and/or among school districts; and

The organization and reorganization of school districts.
A successful candidate appointed to fill the vacancy shall hold office until October 26, 2026. The nomination must be received by the County Superintendent of Schools by August 31, 2026.
