Course Description

Description:

This course introduces students to core skills and knowledge used by medical assistants, including medical terminology, professional ethics, anatomy and physiology, infection control, pharmacology, and emergency procedures. Students who are accepted for summer internships at Kaiser Permanente receive supervised, hands-on experience performing medical assisting tasks and may have opportunities to observe physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

The course articulates with the College of Marin, and UC “g” elective credit is available.

Who should apply?

Location & Schedule

Location: Terra Linda High School

Dates: Classroom coursework during Fall and Spring Semesters.

Paid Summer clinical internships at Kaiser Permanente for students who meet requirements (pending confirmation from Kaiser).

Times: The class takes place during Terra Linda High School's 7th-period class.

Age Group: For high school students, recommended for seniors or juniors with priority given to seniors.

Selected student candidates will be invited to an informational meeting with the teacher and ROP staff before confirming acceptance. Applicants will be emailed with next steps after applying.
*Not all student applicants will participate in a virtual meeting with the class teacher or program coordinator. Historically, the number of applicants exceeds the course capacity. The class roster capacity is limited due to the internship opportunity with Kaiser Permanente. Priority is given to rising 12th-grade students who meet requirements.
