About Marin Induction
MARIN COUNTY TEACHER INDUCTION PROGRAM
The Marin County Teacher Induction Program provides a 2-year, high-quality, job-embedded, individualized system of support and development for Teachers through three main components:
1. Teacher Induction Mentor
Teacher-Mentor Pairing
Each Teacher is paired with a Mentor, an experienced educator with at least three years of teaching experience, who provides weekly, on-site support (minimum of one hour per week). Mentor-Teacher relationships are confidential and formative, and are not shared with district evaluators. Mentors assist teachers in establishing strong professional habits, which then improve student outcomes.
Mentors
- Offer ongoing support for the first two years of teaching or continued support for former interns and teachers from out of state or country
- Work with Teachers to design an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) connected to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) within 60 days of enrollment in the Teacher Induction program. ILPs are initially guided by their preliminary program transition plan, with program and administrator input. Per the CTC, “Preliminary programs develop their own Induction Development Plans (IDP), which are based upon the Teaching Performance Expectations (TPE). The IDP identifies the TPEs where the program completer is stronger and where the individual needs additional support.” Teachers bring their IDPs to their first Teacher Induction Workshop to guide their initial ILP.
- Ensure that the ILP is used solely for professional growth and development and not for evaluation of employment purposes.
- Support relationships between the teacher, administrator, colleagues, parents, and the community.
- Continuously guide teachers in reflection on effectiveness of instruction, analysis of student and other outcomes data, and use of data to further inform the repeated cycle of planning and instruction.
- Provide "just in time" and longer term guidance with:
- Identifying resources
- Research-based teaching practices and pedagogy
- Instructional design and lesson planning
- Content support
- Setting and reaching professional learning goals
- Planning lessons and providing feedback from observations
- Assessment and analysis of student data
- Minimizing bias and using culturally responsive pedagogy
- Developing strategies to support multi-lingual learners
- Implementing supports and strategies for students with learning differences and disabilities
- Ongoing reflection on practice through cycles of Inquiry related to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession
- Support with coordinating veteran teacher observations
2. Individualized Learning Plan
Individualized Learning Plan (ILP)
Teachers collaborate with their Mentors, Administrators, and the Induction Program to develop and Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) focused on mastering the 2024 California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP), within 60 days of enrollment in the program. The ILP goals are developed in alignment with district initiatives and with site administrator input. Goals include clear action steps, considerations for students with different learning needs and multi-lingual learners, considerations for equity, and areas of professional development support. Progress is measured using the Continuum of Teaching Practice at the beginning and end of each semester, and at the semester's end they engage in a reflective analysis of their progress on each goal.
3. Professional Development
Professional Development
Each Teacher attends three workshops per year with their Mentor to build on the cycle of reflection related the to their growth on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP). Teachers also engage in professional development in alignment with their Individual Learning Plan goals. Additional Professional Development workshops are offered at the Marin County Office of Education related to all 6 of the CSTP.

2024 California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP)
The 2024 California Standards for the Teaching Profession were adopted in April 2024. The Continuum of Teaching Practice has yet to be released as of 10/8/24.
2024 CA Standards for the Teaching Profession
Per PSA 24-06 (6/1/2024), all Teacher Induction Programs must be fully aligned with the 2024 CSTPs no later than the 2026-2027 school year. Transition to the 2024 CSTPs will take place prior to the 2026-2027 school year, as teachers "must be allowed to complete their program using the version of the CSTP that was in place when they began their teacher induction experience. These candidates should not be required to change to the 2024 CSTP mid-program. "
