School Law Enforcement Partnership (SLEP)
The goal of the Marin County School/Law Enforcement Partnership, a collaboration of schools, law enforcement and community agencies, is to encourage and support a countywide effort to keep Marin schools and communities as safe and healthy environments for all students and families. We are grateful to our partners in this important endeavor. Click here for the 2024-2025 SLEP Meeting Schedule.

Gun Safety
Gun safety and gun violence prevention are crucial issues that affect not only individuals but also communities and society as a whole. Youth are particularly vulnerable to the impact of gun violence, which can have lasting effects on their mental health, educational outcomes, and future prospects. MCOE promotes gun safety education, responsible gun ownership and storage practices, and the implementation of evidence-based programs that address the root causes of gun violence. By doing so, we can create a safer and healthier environment for our youth to thrive and reach their full potential.
Visit the Marin Gun Safety website for additional information and resources, and our Trauma Informed Resources page for best practices and tips for talking to youth about gun violence.

- Comprehensive School Safety Plan
- Injury and Illness Protection Program
Threat Determination Protocol
California Assembly Bill 1747 and the California Education Code Section 32281(a) require all Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to develop and maintain a Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP). Creating a safe learning environment for students is at the center of a CSSP, and one of the required elements is preparedness for violence on campus. Although we hope violence on school campuses never occurs, the Marin County School Threat Determination Protocol manual supports each of our Marin schools in their preparedness and risk reduction efforts.
The purpose of the Marin County School Threat Determination Protocol is to reduce the risk of targeted violence at Marin County schools. The comprehensive protocol incorporates evidence-based practices, current research, and consultation with law enforcement partners, mental health providers and school district staff.
