Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program
The Governor recently signed AB 854, which clarifies the definition of foster youth and establishes the Foster Youth Services Coordinating Program. The MCOE coordinates these services through working with our Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) to ensure positive education outcomes for students. The bill contains a hold harmless for one year ensuring that a County Office of Education (COE) coordinating these efforts will receive no less in 2015-16 than was received in 2014-15. Once the California Department of Education (CDE) submits a proposed allocation formula to the Department of Finance (DOF), the DOF has 30 days to approve the formula. MCOE staff will share the guidance from CDE on requirements to release funding once the allocation has been approved. More information about this resource will be provided at the November 18th Marin County Homeless & Foster Youth Services Advisory Council meeting.
