Save the Dates for the Project Based Learning (PBL) seminar August 3 - 5, 2016! The Buck Institute for Education and the Marin County Office of Education are hosting PBL for three events: PBL Institutes 101 and 102, Instructional Coaching Academy and Leadership Academy for Administrators.
The California Department of Education recently sent notification via email to the Homeless listserv regarding board policies and/or administrative regulations that are not compliant with the provisions of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act. MCOE is in the process of reviewing district policies to ensure that they do not include language requiring homeless students to provide verification of residence.
Eight teachers in either grade 5 or middle school (depending on the grade level teaching US History), are selected to participate in a week long Colonial Williamsburg Institute Program over the summer. Teachers are selected on a first come, first served basis, and should not have attended the institute before.
Golden Bell Awards Ceremony
The annual Golden Bell Awards Ceremony will be held May 26, 2016 at 4:30p.m. at Dominican University's Angelico Hall. In addition to Certificated Teachers and Annual Awards, community partners, local businesses and volunteers will be honored.

California Coastal Art and Poetry Contest is an opportunity for students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade to submit their art or poetry to the California Coastal Commission per their guidelines. Selected winning art and poetry pieces will be part of a travelling exhibit shown at locations throughout California during 2016, and also include prizes for the winners.
New Science Framework is an overview of K-12 Next Generation Science Standards workshop.
High School districts should have received an email in late November to provide REVISED 2014 California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) Apportionment Information Reports. You may use this corrected report for certification purposes. Please note that since the correction did not alter the amounts to be apportioned, the CDE will accept both the November 25 or November 23 version of the report if signed by the county or district superintendent or charter school administrator. The Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University have launched Patient No More: People with Disabilities Securing Civil Rights. This interactive, multimedia exhibit, can be viewed at the Marin County Office of Education from December 1-15, 2015, and is timed to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and celebrates the success of the 1977 disability sit-in in San Francisco.
"Patient No More" tells the story of how more than 100 people with disabilities occupied 50 UN Plaza in San Francisco for nearly a month in April 1977 to demand that a precursor to the ADA be signed. Supported by groups such as the Black Panthers, Delancey Street, Glide Memorial Church, and politicians such as Phillip Burton, George Miller, and Mayor George Moscone, the protesters emerged victorious after a 26-day demonstration, the longest occupation of a federal building by any group to date.
Teachers and community leaders are encouraged to organize "field trips" to the exhibit between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. between December 1 and December 15 to share this opportunity for learning about social justice and the power of overcoming adversity.
