Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program
The Gold Ribbon Schools Award program is honoring elementary schools this year. Thirteen Marin County schools applied for the award, and we expect to be notified in late January of which schools are selected to receive a Site Validation visit and move forward in the application process.
On March 17, the Marin County Fair Grounds will host Farm Day to highlight the importance of agriculture and farming in Marin County. A series of student actitivies are planned and field trips are encouraged. Related contest flyers are provided below:
Foster Youth Services
Marin County Office of Education has contracted with Sacramento County Office of Education to implement Foster Focus, a secure, web-based data system developed by Sacramento COE and used by nearly 30 counties throughout California. When the system is operational, school districts will have access to foster youth enrolled in their district.
Mathematics Placement Act of 2015
The California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015 requires the governing boards or bodies of local education agencies that serve pupils entering grade nine and that have not already done so, to adopt "a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy" before the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. The mathematics placement policy must be adopted in a regularly scheduled public meeting.
Administrative Credential Program Announcement
The Marin County Office of Education and San Francisco State University will be co-sponsoring the Marin Leadership Institute for those interested in earning an Administrative Services Credential. Applications are due no later than April 1, 2016.
English Language Arts/English Language Development Instructional Materials Price List

Rotary Youth Leadership Program (RYLA)
The Rotary is offering their free RYLA leadership training program on April 8-10, 2016. The program emphasizes leadership, citizenship and personal growth for high school students who are in the 10th or 11th grade. Below is a link with more information on the online application application for scholarships to attend this camp.
Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning.
Principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public, may nominate teachers in grades K-6 for the 2016 Award Year. The deadline for applications is May 1, 2016.
California Global Education Survey
The California Department of Education is conducting a survey to learn how schools across California are helping develop students' global competence, including the development of fluency in more than one language, and the capacity and disposition to understand and act on issues of global significance. Please forward this information to the person who can best answer this short survey on behalf of their school.
