WestEd-California's Evolving Accountability Landscape - March 8, 2016
WestEd is presenting a discussion on "California's Evolving Accountability Landscape" including an update on the impact of ESSA, with Jannelle Kubinec from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the Marin County Office of Education. Light breakfast will be served. To register, call (415) 499-5870.
Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program
Nine Marin schools have been selected to move forward in the Gold Ribbon Schools Award process. Validation visits are required for six schools and are scheduled to take place this month. We are soliciting administrators to serve as team members for the half-day visits.
Mathematics Placement Act of 2015
The California Mathematics Placement Act of 2015 requires the governing boards or bodies of local education agencies that serve pupils entering grade nine and that have not already done so, to adopt "a fair, objective, and transparent mathematics placement policy" before the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. The mathematics placement policy must be adopted in a regularly scheduled public meeting.

Foster Youth Services
Nearly all districts have signed on to the Foster Focus Interagency Agreement. We are continuing outreach to districts to solicit participation in the agreement, which will allow access to Foster Focus, the web-based system that allows for interagency sharing of foster youth data.
California Global Education Survey
The California Department of Education is conducting a survey to learn how schools across California are helping develop students' global competence, including the development of fluency in more than one language, and the capacity and disposition to understand and act on issues of global significance. Please forward this California Global Education Survey to the person who can best answer this short survey on behalf of their school.

The Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project
The Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project reaches out to Asian and Pacific Islander youth in California to build on their understanding of what it means to be Asian and Pacific Islander American students in todays culturally and ethnically diverse society. Fifty juniors and seniors will be selected from statewide applicants to participate in the conference on March 17-20, 2016 in Sacramento. Please share information about this conference to all interested students.

Administrative Credential Program Announcement
The Marin County Office of Education and San Francisco State University will be co-sponsoring the Marin Leadership Institute for those interested in earning an Administrative Services Credential. Applications are due no later than April 1, 2016.
Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning.
Principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public, may nominate teachers in grades K-6 for the 2016 Award Year.
