Growing Healthy Events Workshop, April 25, 2016 10 am - 12 pm

Play Fair Marin and the Marin County Department of Cultural Services invite you to a workshop to learn how our small steps led to big results and how one small intention in your community can make a big difference. This workshop is intended to highlight ways your elected officials, leaders, event planners, and community members can work together to make the easiest changes first.  This workshop will be held at the Marin County Office of Education, Hollis Hall.

2016 Disaster Cost Recovery Course - May 11 and 12, 2016, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm at Marin County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services

This course is for those county, city, town or district employees that will be applying for/managing cost reimbursement and supervising projects after a major incident/disaster. This is your chance to learn what we need to do to receive federal and/or state reimbursement for the cost of emergency protective measures, debris removal and disposal, damage to roads, bridges, public buildings, public utilities and park and recreation facilities. What forms are needed?, How do we track and report our expenses so that we can be successful in recovering significant costs? 

Sonoma Marin SMART Train

Sonoma Marin SMART Train has created a Rail Safe website with rail safety resources for all members of the community, including parents and students. Here you will find rail safety materials including posters, activity books and safety tips.  They are also offering free rail safety presentations to schools.

TUPE Grant

In January, MCOE submitted a proposal for Tobacco Use Prevention Education Cohort L Tier 2 funding to provide comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation services in middle and high schools through 2019.  We recently learned that our proposal was not funded.  While we scored well, there were not enough funds available to support our project. 

Child Abuse Reporting and Prevention

Per the attached letter from Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, with the beginning of a new calendar year, the California Department of Education is emphasizing more pointedly our most important priority – student safety. 

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) - Coaches Training

The final PBIS Coaches Training will take place at the Marin County Office of Education on May 4, 2016.  The goal of this training is to build local capacity within districts to provide continuing coaching support and district leadership to support schools.

Teens on Screens: How to Protect Our Youth in Today's Cyber World – April 6, 2016

Presentation will be a comprehensive overview of the current issues in cyber crime.  Topics include: identifying internet predators, chat rooms, sexting, sextortion, cyber bullying, geo-tagging technology, social networking sites, and technology facilitated crimes against children.
