Federal Preschool Expansion Grants

Governor Brown has submitted a letter of intent to apply for the FY14 Preschool Development Grants.  California is eligible for a maximum of $35M per year for four years.  States must present an "ambitious and achievable plan to implement and sustain high-quality preschool programs that can reach and serve additional eligible children in two or more high-need communities."  Competitive priorities include:

  • Contributing matching funds,
  • Supporting a birth-through-third-grade continuum, and
  • Using at least 50% of their funding to create new state preschool program slots.

First 5 California has already hosted one call with CSP 1 and 3 counties, and we will continue to work closely with staff and CDE and First 5 California as the application is developed.
