Health and Wellness - Halloween Candy Give Back Benefiting Armed Forces

For the past several years, the members of the District Attorney's Office and Marin County Prosecutor's Association have engaged in a Halloween Give-Back of Halloween candy.  For the week after Halloween we have collected our excess candy to submit to "Operation Gratitude," a non profit which sorts candy, along with thank you letters, and other items into care packages to send to our troops, veterans, recruits and those stationed abroad.

This 2014 Halloween season, we would like to invite all of our county partners to participate in such a challenge.  All it takes is a volunteer coordinator, a box, and a couple of dollars for shipping - but it can help create a meaningful showing of appreciation and support for our servicemen and servicewomen.  We could construe this as a competition, but when we all give, we all win.  As an aside, giving back the ridiculous amount of sugar filled Halloween candy our families receive must be consistent with our county's "Wellness" policy.

Please feel free to contact the District Attorney's office for tips on how to create a Halloween Candy Give-Back.  For further information about this challenge click here and to see how this excess Halloween candy is incorporated into care packages.
