Personnel - AB 1522 Sick Leave for All

AB1522 will have a significant impact on how we pay and track substitute and temporary employees.  This new law requires employers (including school district employers) to grant sick leave to all employees who work 30 or more days within a year.  The employee becomes eligible to use earned sick leave after they have worked 90 days.  There are a number of concerns as this law relates to school districts, and in particular, substitute teachers and student employees working on a work permit.

A coordinated effort, led by the Orange County Office of Education, with support from Jeff Frost, is underway to work the original author of the bill in an attempt to get clean up legislation to reduce the administrative impact of this bill and to help prevent abuse.
