Health and Wellness - California Healthy Kids Survey
2015 Marin Module G
The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is the largest statewide survey of resiliency, protective factors, and risk behaviors in the nation. With the CHKS, schools, districts, counties have a standard tool that promotes the collection of uniform data within and across local education agencies that are also comparable to existing state and national survey datasets. CHKS assesses health risks, specifically relating to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) use; school violence; physical health; resilience and youth development; and school climate. The CHKS when accompanied by the California School Climate Survey for staff and the California School Parent Survey enables the comparison of student, teacher, and parent data.
The CHKS can be customized to meet local needs, interests, and standards, and provides a means to confidentially obtain data on student knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions about the topics it covers. The Marin module has been in place for several cycles of the CHKS administration and focuses on issues of interest in our community. The attached updated version of the Marin module has been edited to include items of importance for local trend data that have been removed from the Core CHKS module. There are also new items added to address emerging concerns within the Marin community.
While the CHKS is available in both paper form with optical scan answer sheets and in a web-based online version; the Healthy Marin Partnership and the County of Marin want to encourage use of the online version wherever possible for the 2015-2016 administration of the survey.
