Human Trafficking in Marin

On April 29, 2015, 50 Marin County citizens attended a presentation by FBI Specialist Marty Parker on Missing Children and Online Predators.  In addition to addressing cyber-predators and the threat to naive preteens and teens, Agent Parker also addressed the reality of human trafficking, specifically prostitution of young females in Marin County.  Human trafficking encompasses many different forms.  It is the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting or obtaining a person through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of exploitation.  Victims can be found in commercial sex, domestic servitude, factories, construction, farming or landscaping, hotel or tourist industries, janitorial services and restaurant services.

Soroptimist International, the Marin County District Attorney and West Marin Advocacy are among the organizations fighting this problem.
