General - Transgender AB 1266
AB 1266 affirms existing anti-discrimination law in California requiring that transgender students, like all students, be allowed to participate fully in school so they can succeed. The law, which went into effect in January 2014 and is now California Education Code Section 221.5(f), explains that students have the right to access facilities and participate in programs and activities that correspond to their gender identity. Ann Salem from the American Civil Liberities Union (ACLU), is offering support to develop policy supporting transgender students.
